Illusion:Reality
Getting Started in Stage Illusions

Chris Murphy's lecture notes

Nearly 60 pages of solid information on adding illusions to your act.

These lecture notes focusing on upsizing your act by adding stage illusions.  The lecture was given as a special one-off event at a magic convention in Australia a few years ago so there are not many copies of these available - if they prove popular I may print some more, however, as they are full of solid information even without the lecture.

The focus of these notes is on helping beginning illusionists to successfully add illusions to their acts whilst avoiding the common pitfalls such as buying inappropriate first illusions.  The advice contained in these notes could save illusionists - both beginner and experienced -  thousands of dollars!

Topics covered include:

  • Why do Illusion Magic?
  • Starting out - things to consider (15 separate areas of advice)
  • What constitutes a strong illusion? (including an analysis of illusion methods)
  • Choosing your first illusions  (the number one effect and method to avoid when starting out; good first illusions; and good illusions which you should not start with)
  • Tips on setting up a workshop and building your own illusions  (the tools you'll need and some basic tips on materials to use)
  • Sources for easy to build illusions

These notes are A4 size, printed both sides, wire coil bound with color card cover and clear overlay and blue card back cover.
